I’m playing a dangerous game and betting my life I’m going to win. I pretend to be his pawn. I do as he says and move where he tells me, letting him think he’s in control as I position myself for revenge.
Every turn brings us closer. His grin doesn’t seem as evil when we’re alone. Behind closed doors, I welcome his unrelenting and vicious personality. He’s confessed all his secrets, but I’m holding one back and it’s a game changer.
If I survive the board, this pawn turns into a queen. I become the most powerful player and send all the other pieces running. To get what I want, I must make sacrifices, but am I willing to draw the line at him?
REVIEW- 4 STARS: Dark and edgy, Torrid by Nikki Sloane is a story with a great mix of suspense and seriously dirty sex. Torrid tells the story of two people playing a dangerous game while battling unexpected feelings for each other.
I loved Sordid, the first book in this series, and was so pleased to know that Vasilije would be getting his own story. He was so deliciously bad in the first book, and he did not disappoint in Torrid. He was cold and ruthless, yet his frozen heart began to thaw unexpectedly when Oksana came into his life. He had a tragic and troubled past and it affected him greatly, turning him into a person with a great ambition for power. Oksana was someone with her own agenda, strong in her own way, and she definitely didn't expect to grow feelings for Vasilije. The circumstances surrounding them were dangerous and precarious, and it was great watching the two of them trying to navigate their feelings and each other amid the danger. Their connection was fierce, and they unexpectedly found that they were a perfect match, practically made for each other.
The story flowed well and had a good mix of steaminess, suspense, and yummy mafia goodness. The writing was great and evenly paced, making for a very enjoyable read. There was no unnecessary drama, just straight story with substance. Fans of super steamy mafia romance will definitely enjoy this book, and I really hope that Sloane has more books planned for this series.
