LIES & LULLABIES by Courtney Lane
Genre: Dark Romance | Thriller
Release Date: July 28, 2016

On the weekends, she’s Sugar, a woman free of the pretty prison constructed by her domineering father, who combs the dangerous streets in search of something she never quite finds. During the week, she’s Simone, the good girl and the illegitimate daughter of the most powerful and hated man in Los Angeles.
Catch—aptly named for his “career” choice—is a man shrouded in mystery with one dangerous purpose. After a whirlwind encounter, Catch draws Simone into his dark and tangled web.  A dangerous game ensues, lives are lost, truths are exposed, and one man may shatter the foundation of a powerful organization on the brink of extinction.  The game of truth or dare won't end until Catch and Simone strip each other of their fa├žades and uncover the reality of who they were, and who they are fated to become.

5 out of 5 Stars

Courtney Lane delivered a raw, gritty, and utterly captivating mafia story that completely consumed me from start to finish. Anything Lane writes is infused with smart dialogue, intriguing characters and a brilliant plot, and this book was no exception. Set in the world of organized crime, Lies and Lullabies tells the story of Catch and Simone, two seemingly different individuals whose lives are forever altered after they cross paths.

"The man was a walking mental mind f***. I had an inkling I'd barely witnessed the full extent of how much he would attempt, and maybe win, control of my mind."

I absolutely love this author's writing style. She has a way with words that make you feel like you are living in the story and experiencing the emotions of the characters. The story pushes so many boundaries, both mental and physical. I was constantly on the edge of my seat with this book, not knowing what was coming next and from which direction. The storyline was so unique, and I found myself immersed in Catch and Simone's twisted and violent world, trying to figure out the agendas of both the main characters and supporting characters and what drove their actions.

"We're going to have a lot of fun together. I'm going to change your life. Don't ruin our beautiful start by behaving rashly."

Both Simone and Catch are so richly developed, and we are given information on them slowly as the story progresses. Catch completely intrigued me from the very first meeting. Sexy, mysterious, and absolutely lethal, he was an enigma that I was dying to figure out. He was the perfect anti-hero, and the mind games he plays with Simone had my head spinning at times. They were two people immersed in a world of sin and crime, each of them holding a different view of their surroundings. Their interactions were always so intriguing, and I loved not knowing where their conversations would take them. Even through their conflicts and mind-games, there was an intense, soul-deep connection between them that could not be ignored.

"Through the f***ed-up-ness that was us, I was the accelerant to his dark and consuming flame."

Lane has a way of crafting a storyline that reels you in and doesn't let go until you read the final words. This book was truly a delicious mind f***, with twists and revelations that just kept on coming. I am sincerely hoping that Lane has more mafia-themed stories coming, because this is my absolute favorite genre and she completely blew me away with this book.

COURTNEY LANE has been creating her own little world since she was very young. When she was eight years old, she began to bring her worlds to life with a pen and paper.

While many of her works touch several different genres, she has an archetype when it comes to the female protagonists in her stories — they have to have certain brand of strength, be deeply flawed, and harbor layered personalities. In her books you will find themes that reflect the darker side of life with a tremendous amount of depth and complexity. She also has an affinity for characters that aren't necessarily the girl or boy next door, or the people you'd encounter in everyday life. In other words, she prefers to explore characters who aren't easy to fall in love with.

Currently, Courtney can be found either working on her next book, playing the latest role-playing game on her X-Box (preferably a game by Bioware), or spending time with her family.
