Pain. It hurts us. It pushes us. It punishes us.
Or, for the few poor souls out there like defines us.
I'm not a good person.
There are no redeeming qualities about me...not anymore.
Any that I had, I'd given to the devil on the night that changed everything.
The night my baby sister died.
The night I murdered her killer.
Yes, I've taken a life...and I would do it again in a heartbeat.
And I would never, ever, have an ounce of regret for being who I am.
Until her.

My name is Jackson Reid. There are two things you need to know about me. The first—is that I'm in love with Alyssa Tanner. The second—is that I'm a murderer.

My name is Alyssa Tanner, but you probably know me as the whore who caused her step-father to lose the election for New York City Mayor.
And you would be right- because the day the world branded me a slut I decided to become one.
You think you know all there is to know about me because you've seen what I look like naked.
Believe me, you haven't even cracked the surface.
What you don't know—is my past, because I've been forced to keep it a secret to ensure my safety.
What you don't know is my pain.
Because if you did—you'd be dead.

I bet you think you know how this story will unfold...but trust me, you really have no idea.

Warning: Due to strong language, some violence, explicit sexual content, and some dark elements, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18.

There are great books, and then there are books that consume you entirely from the moment you begin reading, grabbing ahold of you with full force and not letting go until you read the words 'The End'. Blame it on the Pain was an emotionally gripping and incredibly sexy story that did just that.  Two people with troubled pasts and a precarious future come crashing together in this gripping tale filled with secrets, heart-pounding suspense, scorching hot sex, and unpredictable twists and turns. Ashley Jade delivered a brilliantly crafted storyline that left me hanging on every word.

"I recognize the pain in her soul...because I live with it every day."
Told in dual POV, this book tells the story of Jackson and Alyssa, two people who have been battling their demons on their own for years.   Jackson is an underground MMA fighter with a tragic past and Alyssa is someone who is still reeling from a mistake that turned her entire world upside down.  They are both lost in their own ways, and neither of them had planned on finding love, but fate had other plans for them.  They come crashing together with an undeniable attraction and are drawn to each other by a connection that they don't quite understand.

"I want to give him every single part of me...even the broken parts."

The author did a great job with these characters.  There is nothing I love more than two damaged and imperfect people who find solace and healing with one another.  She did not make their journey an easy one by any means.  The obstacles that stood before them were staggering, as they were forced to fight against outside forces, each other, and their own inner demons.  Jade truly made me feel for these characters. I felt their joy and pain, was enraged at the injustices committed against them, and rooted hard for the villains of the story to pay for the pain they inflicted.  I loved that their relationship was slow burn that only got hotter as they became more and more infatuated with one another. Jackson and Alyssa coming together physically was an explosion of epic proportions.  The passion between them was tasteful and well-written, and the intimacy between them increased in intensity as the story went on.  Their connection went beyond the physical.  These were two people whose souls were intertwined, who had the ability to see each other for more than what was on the surface.

"I've never had anyone take their time and worship me or my body.  It makes me feel loved and cherished in a way I never knew was possible."

Jade's storytelling skills are exceptional.  There were times where I had no idea what was coming next, and those are by far my most favorite stories to read.  There was so much to this story beyond a simple romantic suspense. The plot was intricately woven without being over the top or over-complicated, which is a testament to the author's fantastic skills.   The cast of supporting characters added another dimension to the story and made for some great scenes as well.  This story had some heartbreaking moments, some laugh-out-loud funny moments, and moments that had my pulse racing in anticipation.   I have a new favorite author to add to my list, and I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys raw, gritty, and suspenseful romance.
