He’s dark and mysterious. Quiet and lethal.
An Irish mobster.
Pure sin wrapped up in a beautiful package.
But there’s also something off about him.
He doesn’t feel anything. He shows no emotions.
Sometimes I question his humanity.
He hasn’t spoken to me in two years. Not a single word.
But we share a secret, he and I.
And if it ever comes out, I have no doubt in my mind…
He won’t have a problem killing me too.

I’ve slain for her. I’ll do it again.
When it comes to Sasha, there isn’t a line I won’t cross.
I watch her. She doesn’t know it.
She thinks I hate her. Sometimes, I think I might too.
But I’m always there, lurking in the shadows.
Craving her. Trying to keep the beast within at bay.
I’ll keep her safe. I’ll slaughter anyone who tries to hurt her.
The only thing I can’t do… is protect her from myself.

A. Zavarelli completely blew me away with this story. Reaper, book 2 of the Boston Underworld series, was a dark, sexy, and utterly thrilling ride that I did not want to get off of. The author delivered a hot, suspenseful, unbelievably sexy story that was well-written and completely captivating. I was so intrigued by both Sasha and Ronan when we were first introduced to them in Crow, Book One of the series, and couldn't wait to get their story. And what a story it was. This author has incredible talent when it comes to weaving a tale that is equal parts erotic and suspenseful. She creates multi-layered characters that you yearn to learn more about and become emotionally invested in. Reaper had me hanging on to every word, and this was a book that I just couldn't bring myself to put down.

Sasha and Ronan were tied by an event in their past that no one else was aware of. With him as the main enforcer for the McKenna Syndicate and her as a dancer in their club, it was inevitable that they had to encounter each other on a regular basis. They had managed to keep their distance for two years, but it was only a matter of time before the lines between them would be crossed and they gave into temptation.

"We're a symphony of madness. Dark thirsts and wild obsession."

Zavarelli did an incredibly job with the character development, making me fall in love with her characters and root for them as they try to navigate through their obstacles. Ronan was such an enigma, and I was so excited to finally get inside his head. To the outside world he is a man forged from steel; cold, emotionless, and violent. The reader was given details of his past that showed how he came to be the man he is, and my heart broke for him and everything he had to endure. I felt absolute rage towards the people who tried to strip away his humanity in the most brutal of ways, which is a testament to the author's amazing writing abilities. He was a man who didn't know how to handle basic emotions, and no one made him feel more than Sasha. His raw, singular obsession for her was so intense, I broke out in chills more than once while reading.

"She's the thing I've yearned for more than anything else. And for that reason, she's the thing I can never have."

Sasha was such a great girl who was dealt one bad hand after another. She was sweet and intelligent, strong and loyal. She had sacrificed so much of herself for so long, and was accustomed to suffering in silence. The pull she felt towards Ronan was unexplainable yet undeniable. She knew there was so much more to him beneath the surface; a man who was fiercely loyal, protective, and a force to be reckoned with.

"I've seen his true nature. And I've never felt safer than when I was in his arms."

As with this authors other work, this story has a unique quality to it that I truly enjoyed. There was nothing conventional about Ronan and Sasha's relationship or the way they came together and I absolutely loved that. When the two of them become intimate, wow was it hot. To say that the sex between them was explosive would be putting it mildly. The tension between them had been so strong for so long, and that came out in full when they came together. Zavarelli excels at writing sex scenes that are unbelievably erotic and leave me desperately anticipating their next encounter.

"The taste of my skin is what gets him off. Being inside of me. Owning me. He drinks from me and gives me another lethal injection of his brand of narcotic."

The two of them had to contend with outside forces that stood as a threat to them, and the author weaved an incredibly suspenseful and brilliantly crafted storyline that left me wanting more. A. Zavarelli has created an absolutely fantastic series with the Boston Underworld books. I am an avid reader of this genre, and this series sits at the top of the list of the best books I have ever read. If you enjoy romance full of heart-pounding suspense, incredibly hot sex, and well-written characters, then this is one series that should not be missed.

A. Zavarelli is a romance book junkie, cat lover, and traveler when plagued by intense cases of wanderlust. She likes all things chocolate, books that come
with warnings, and pretty much any kind of characters that are dark and gritty. You can find more about her on her website.
