This is War, Baby by K Webster ~ Review

My life had a plan. Until he invaded it and stole it all away. My captor took me and I became a pawn.

His strategy changed and he sent me away to WAR, because money is everything in this world.

In my WAR, though, I found peace.

I couldn’t help but find love where I least expected it, with a man who lived a battle every day of his life
…all inside his head.

But then my captor came back for me.
Yet, this time, battle lines had been drawn and I was protected.

So we thought.
Even though my WAR was raging,
my captor would fight to the death.

The good guys always win, right?
Not always.

All’s fair in love and WAR, right?
Not this time.

This is War, Baby is a dark romance. A really dark one. So dark you’re going to wish you had a flashlight to see yourself to the end and someone to hold your hand. Human trafficking, dubious consent, and strong sexual themes that could trigger emotional distress are found in this story. This story is NOT for everyone.

Kathy's Review

You know when you try to write a review but no thoughts will come even though you loved the book, that you are full of feelings. It’s hard to put feelings into words and I think that’s the problem I’m having now because this book took me on an emotional roller coaster. One minute I was appalled, then I was laughing, holding my breath, melting, crying and then that OMG NO moment at the end. This book makes you feel all that and more, it makes you feel everything! It is a part one of what I’m praying is a duet and all I can do is COUNT the days until March 29. This is one of those books that impacts you so much that you will not soon forget it, if ever. WAR just refuses to become a memory and for me it has become an OBSESSION. If you like books that make you feel, you need to read this book, after reading the author’s warning.

This is War, Baby is very well written. Everything about it was flawless. The author uses comparisons that quite honestly left me breathless. But more than that it put me in the story and forced me to feel the characters’ emotions and that was an emotional roller coaster of epic proportions. The writing blew me away in the first book that I read by this author and then again in this book. This is only my second book by Ms. Webster and it will not be my last. I may not read anything else until I’ve devoured her other books. I’m having trouble forming sentences so the bottom line is the writing was flawless. The dialogue was flawless. The author used multiple POV and it was flawless. There were absolutely NO inconsistencies and I’m here to tell you that is unusual.

The mechanics of writing, grammar, and word building was flawless as well. You should know if there is one review saying the opposite of 70 now 71 reviews that… well, we all know what that means…

This book is dark with periods of light, beautiful, stunning light! The author starts you out in the lowest depth of darkness as far as I’m concerned, but that has to do with my only hard limit. This pitch darkness doesn’t last long and then the author shows you such bright light that it blinds you in the form of a broken man that Bay begins to fix but then Ms Webster plunges you back into the darkness right before a cliffhanger. Hang onto your Kindles because the urge to launch them will be strong. Just know, the story will continue in less than 30 days and again, I’m COUNTING the days…

I’m rambling. So quickly, read the warning. If you’re OK with the dark, you need to read this book. The very beginning is hard to read but do not quit like I nearly did, because once you get past the beginning the next part of the ride is worth everything! I highly recommend this book and this author. If I could rate more than 5 stars, I would without pause.

Happy Reading!!
