The Lost by Cole McCade REVIEW

The first book in the new Cole McCade: After Dark erotica imprint; a darkly haunting erotica with the taboo appeal of V.C. Andrews.

There's something wrong with Leigh.

She's known it her whole life. She knows it every time she spreads her legs. Every time she begs for the pain, the pleasure, the heat of a hard man driving deep inside. She's a slave to her own twisted lusts--and it's eating her alive. She loves it. She craves it. Sex is her drug, and she's always chasing her next fix. But nothing can satisfy her addiction, not even the nameless men she uses and tosses aside. No one's ever given her what she truly needs.

Until Gabriel Hart.

Cold. Controlled. Impenetrable. Ex-Marine Gabriel Hart isn't the kind of man to come running when Leigh crooks her pretty little finger. She loathes him. She hungers for him. He's the only one who understands how broken she is, and just what it takes to satisfy the emptiness inside. But Gabriel won't settle for just one night. He wants to claim her, keep her, make her forever his. Together they are the lost, the ruined, the darkness at the heart of Crow City.

But Leigh has a darkness of her own. A predator stalking through her past--one she'll do anything to escape.

Even if it means running from the one man who could love her...and leaving behind something more precious to her than life itself.

KATHY'S REVIEW ~~ 5 stars

5 beautiful, heart wrenching, soul touching stars !!!

Ok, so I read this books days ago and I’m still not sure what to do with this review. My thoughts remain scattered, my emotions raw. I’m thinking about the book and I’m still unable to read any other book. Yes, this book is that good. Nope, good is not the correct word, it’s not enough. I’m not sure I even have the word in my vocabulary to adequately describe this book. If you are like me, you want a book that will make you feel and you will experience all types of emotions from this book. The actual story AND the author’s writing elicit those emotions, even from the beginning note regarding trigger warnings.

This is a dark book and it deals with subject matter that could definitely cause triggers so I urge you to read and pay attention to the author’s warning not only because the author does not deserve negative reviews but because he really cares and worries. I was as impressed with this as I was with his ability to tell a soul touching story with his absolutely beautiful writing. My chills began in the first few pages while reading the trigger warning. This is not going to be a book for everyone, but honestly, what book is?

This is my first book by Cole McCade and it will not be my last. I’m in love with his writing. His use of descriptive words, imagery and comparisons make you feel every emotion in the book, so much so that I had to walk away at times. It is intense, funny at times, and so very sad that I felt like my heart was breaking for a fictional character. As with life, there are ups to go with the downs and those are the parts that caused full body chills. Above all else, there is hope. Mr. McCade shows us that there can always be hope even in the direst of situations, sometimes in places we never expect and sometimes it’s there and we just cannot see it. Sometimes life is so cruel that it is blinds us. Wow, just wow. Great job Mr. McCade, Great job.

I don’t talk about content, ever, but I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the ending. I’m not a person that cries easily, even when I should. But with that ending you have to be dead for a few tears not to fall. Me? Tears were streaming down my face. I get chills now, even now, just thinking about it. I love it when an author drags the reader down only to bring them up in the end in such a way that you are just overcome with emotion. This author has really amazing talent and I am very much looking forward to reading more of his works of art!!

This is a full length novel that ends. There will more in this series, but this one ended without a cliffhanger. Thank you for that! The plot is well developed and it and the story flows smoothly. There are flashbacks into Leigh’s past, but it’s done in a way that does not disrupt the flow. The dialogue is flawless. The characters are well developed and trust me when I say they are unforgettable. They stay with you long after the book has reached the end. The writing is beautiful perfection, something that has unfortunately become extinct. Yes, yes, yes I recommend this book, barring any possible trigger potentials. I recommend this author and anything he writes in the future. I would like to thank Cole McCade and TRSoR for the amazing experience of reading this book. I originally received it as an ARC for my blog, Just Let Me Read, but I wasted no time purchasing it today.

Also to Cole McCade, my condolences for the loss of your beloved “pet.” I’m a dog person, but I understand the devastation when a loved one dies, whether it has two or four legs.

TAMMY'S REVIEW ~~ 4 stars

Truthfully, at times, I had a hard time getting through this story. It brought out emotions that aren't very comfortable, including annoyance that turned into anger at times, but I was also compelled to keep reading because I became so invested in the story. I even told a friend I wasn't sure I wanted to finish the book because of the emotions I was feeling, but any book that makes me feel so strongly is worth the my time!! This book deals with some serious issues, abuse and the ramifications of that abuse, so if you are looking for some light reading with a HEA ending then this book is not for you, but if you are looking to find a compelling book that will make you think and feel some strong emotions, then this is the book for you!! I really like that the author addressed the issues after the story was over, giving people information of where to go if there is abuse going on in their lives. Then he gets a bit personal about his beloved pets and the importance of shelter pets needing love too!! That made me happy because I have a rescue dog that I love very much!! So I do recommend this book with my previous cautions. I just may have to look into other books by Cole!!
